What this means
Compare the share of people who used the Internet across countries.
Higher share of the population used the Internet; lower share of the population used the internet.
Methodology & source
Values are World Bank World Development Indicators IT.NET.USER.ZS: individuals using the Internet as a percentage of the population. The original producer is the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for SDG 17.8.1; World Bank WDI is the import and redistribution path. Direct ITU DataHub reuse is not used. The figure is the share of individuals who used the Internet from any location during the previous three months, using any suitable device or connection. WDI republishes a mixed series of official household surveys, national statistical-office estimates, and ITU interpolation, extrapolation, regression modelling, or analogy with comparable countries. WDI does not provide a usable observation-status flag for each country-year, so the layer is classified as modelled rather than observed household-survey results. It is not Internet subscriptions, fixed broadband, mobile subscriptions, household Internet access, connection speed, digital skills, affordability, or a digital-development composite. 2025 is omitted because WDI currently publishes that year for only a sparse country set, not a comparable global map. 1990-1999 is not advertised because early measurement is less comparable, including subscription-era methods. Country differences in survey age scope, recall periods, revisions, and occasional major breaks remain in the published series and are not smoothed. OurBlueDot does not interpolate, fill missing years, replace missing values with zero, or add estimates. True published zeros and 100 percent values are kept and ranked. Country rows are joined by ISO 3166-1 alpha-3; regional and income aggregates are excluded. Territories outside UN-193, including WDI entities PSE and XKX, are not added to the country registry. Map ranks are comparable-sample competition ranks among currently loaded countries (rank 1 is the highest Internet-use share). Higher values are generally more favorable for digital access; Internet use is not a complete measure of social welfare or connection quality. Missing countries remain without a value.

Eritrea, Myanmar, North Korea, Sudan, South Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Turkmenistan, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Samoa, and Yemen remain without a 2024 value. Missing countries remain without a rank.
