Fertilizer Consumption
Compare inorganic fertilizer nutrients used per hectare of arable land.
Methodology
Values are World Bank World Development Indicators AG.CON.FERT.ZS: fertilizer consumption in kilograms of plant nutrients per hectare of arable land, from FAO fertilizer statistics. The series is apparent consumption of nitrogenous, phosphate, and potash fertilizers (including ground rock phosphate), calculated as production plus imports minus exports. Traditional nutrients from animal and plant manures are not included. Because some fertilizer compounds have industrial uses, published consumption may overstate the quantity available for crops. FAO disseminates a calendar year; some countries still report on a split-year basis. Arable land is FAO land under temporary crops (double-cropped areas counted once), temporary meadows, kitchen gardens, and temporary fallow; land abandoned after shifting cultivation is excluded. OurBlueDot does not interpolate, fill missing years, or replace missing values with zero; true source zeros are kept. Country rows are joined by ISO 3166-1 alpha-3; regional and income aggregates are excluded. Map ranks are comparable-sample competition ranks among currently loaded countries (rank 1 is the highest nutrient use per hectare). Missing countries remain without a value.
